What does KVPY Mean?
It is the short form for Kishore Vaigynaik Protsahan Yojana. It is a scholarship program that is funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Indian Government. The purpose of the KVPY program is to motivate students to take up a research career in the areas of basic sciences. There are different streams of KVPY, and here is an explanation in this regard:
Stream SA 2023
Students, who have enrolled in class XI science stream during the academic year 2020-2023 are eligible for Stream SA 2023. They should have secured at least 75% of marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD) in aggregate in science and mathematics papers in class X board examination.
The fellowship will be activated only when they enroll in a UG course in basic sciences in the academic year 2023-2022. It is also compulsory that they should secure at least 60% of marks in aggregate in science subjects in class XII or appropriate board examination.
KVPY will call the selected candidates for a National Science camp during the interim period of one year. The travel expenses in this regard will be taken care of by KVPY.
Stream SX 2023
Other than the fact that the students must have enrolled in class XII science Stream during the academic year 2020-2023 as against class XI in SA Stream, the other rules remain the same in SX.
SB Stream
KVPY SB Stream is for students, who enroll in the first year of their degree course in 2020-2023 with at least 60% of marks in higher secondary science stream (50% for reserved category candidates). Before taking up fellowship, they should secure at least 60% of marks in the first year degree course final examination (50% for reserved category candidates).
What is the KVPY Test?
After getting application forms from eligible candidates for different streams, the KVPY will call eligible candidates for an aptitude test that is conducted both in English and in Hindi at different centers across India. Candidates can expect the KVPY test to be conducted in the first week of November every year. It is the score of this test that IISc considers for admission of students to the UG course of B.Sc. Research.
Conclusion
The other test scores that help students to get admission to the IISc are JEE Main, and advanced and NEET UG. These are popular entrance tests in India taken by students interested in taking B. Tech and MBBS admissions in top institutes in the country. NEET UG is conducted as a single-window entrance test for admission to the medical institutions across the country and CBSE organizes this test. It is conducted in the month of May every year.
