Jawaharlal Nehru University, shortly called as JNU is one of the prominent universities in the country. The university has a world-renowned centre for research and teaching. She was ranked the first among the other universities in India by the NAAC with a grade point of 3.91 on the scale 4.

JNU was also ranked with the third position among all the universities in the country by the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the Indian Government. In the year 2017, the university has got the honour of being the best University in India by the President of India in the year 2017.

JNU Admission Policy

JNU admits students to different courses based on the merit secured by the applicants in written Examination and this examination is named as JNU Entrance Exam. For some courses, a Viva Voce Examination is also conducted by the university. The weightage given for the written exam and viva voce differs from one course to another as per the table below:

JNU Admission 2019 Notification

In general, JNU invites applications for JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE) from eligible candidates after the second week of September every year. They will be required to submit the filled-in application forms within the second week of October every year.

JNU Admission 2019 Eligibility

The eligibility for admission to the different courses for which admission is done through JNU Entrance Exam is as per the table given below:

Tech in Statistical Computing and Computer Science & TechnologyA PG in operational research, statistics, mathematics, computer science or in any other branch of science along with a UG in any branch of engineering or MCA. Candidates must have secured at least 55% of marks in the qualifying examination.

Candidates appearing for the respective qualifying examination can also apply for the particular course. However, if they are selected, they will be granted admission only if they secure the minimum qualifying percentage of marks. The same will be verified at the time of admission when they will have to submit the original copy of the mark sheet of their qualifying examination.

The final date for seeking admission is 14th of August every year and after this date; candidates cannot get admission for the specific academic year. Nevertheless, candidates, who do not join by the stipulated date mainly because of the fact that the result of the qualifying examination was not announced, can join in the next academic year or semester by submitting a written request with the approval of the concerned school without having to take up the JNU test again.

The application form should be submitted only online and candidates have the option to apply to the utmost three fields of study of their choice.

How To Apply?

The applicants interested in applying for any course with the JNU will have to apply online. They will find onscreen instruction and also the complete guide to applying from the website of the university.

List of documents needed

The original documents are required only at the time of admission and not at the time of applying for the university. Candidates selected for admission to the JNU will have to report for registration/admission along with the original copies of their mark sheet of the qualifying examination.

JNU Admission 2019 Exam Pattern

As the JNU Entrance Exam is conducted for admission to the different courses, the pattern differs from one course to another. Paper can be subjective type or objective type. Candidates can check the same from the official website of the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

However, the general format is that there will be a single question paper of three-hour duration for each course of study or each set of course of study.

The test is held for four days with two or three-hour sessions on each day. For some courses, JNU conducts a viva voce for admission and only some candidates will be selected to take up viva voce test from those taking the written test. The eligibility for viva voce will be calculated as follows:

JNU Admission 2019 Syllabus

The syllabus for the entrance test for different courses will be as follows:

M. Tech in Computer Science & TechnologyReasoning, General Aptitude, UG/PG level in computer science and mathematics.
M. Tech in Statistical ComputingThe first part of the test will encompass UG/PG level mathematics, computer science, statistics, reasoning and general aptitude. The second part will encompass topics from data communication/data science stream.
MA in EconomicsEntrance test for this course will have questions from under-development and growth, problems of economic history, descriptive statistics, and micro-economics.
M. Sc in Life SciencesThere is no specific syllabus designed for this test. However, candidates can go through their UGC approved syllabus in their appropriate subjects for guidance.

JNU Admission Admit Card

The applicants are provided with admit cards that are computer generated. So candidates should download admit cards around 2nd week of December from official website. They will be allotted registration number for appearing in the entrance test.

  • Enter application number and other required details and click on submit
  • Check the details and save/print

JNU Admission Results

The results of the JNU Entrance Exam that will be conducted at the end of December 2018 will be released at the end of February 2019 for admission to the courses of 2019.

How to check results?

  • Open https://admissions.jnu.ac.in/
  • Click on Results 2019-20
  • Enter application number and password
  • Use forgot password option to retrieve password if forgotten
  • Click on login and check the result

Cut-off

The university will decide the cut-off for admission to each course based on different criteria:

  • Based on the past year cut-off
  • On the basis of the number of applicants
  • Based on the toughness of the question paper for the entrance test for the specific course.

JNU is one of the popular institutions with national level reputation. So, applicants will have to check with the university prospectus to find whether they will have to take up the entrance test for admission to a specific course with the university. Otherwise, if the degree course to which they wish to apply does not have any entrance test, they can apply based on the score of their qualifying examination.
