UPSC Notification : Post Wise Details

1. Engineering Services Examination
UPSC has released IES/ESE notification 2021 on 7 April 2021 to conduct Engineering Services Examination 2021. The number of vacancies to be filled through UPSC ESE 2021 is 215 out of which 07 vacancies are reserved for the PwBD candidates. The final recruitment of candidates will be made to the posts mentioned against the respective category in the table below.

Candidates who want to appear for UPSC ESE 2021 are required to apply online only on the official website @www.upsconline.nic.in. The last date for submission of applications is 27 April 2021 till 6.00 PM. UPSC ESE Prelim 2021 exam will be held on 18 July 2021 and the Main exam will be held on 21 Nov 2021.

UPSC ESE Eligibility
Nationality
The applicant must be an Indian citizen or a subject of Nepal / Bhutan. Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1st Jan 1962 for permanently settling and Migrants from East African countries and other neighboring countries of India who have migrated with an intention to settle permanently in India are eligible. Candidates other than Indian Citizens will have to submit a certificate of eligibility issued by GOI.
Educational Qualification
Degree in Engineering or its equivalent qualification.
Age Limit
As of 01 Jan 2021, the applicant must be 21 years old but not has acquired the age of 30 years i.e., the applicant should bear between 02 Jan 1991 to 01 Jan 2000. However, relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable for the candidates belonging to the following categories

Plan Of Exam and Selection Process
UPSC Indian Engineering Services exam is conducted in 3 stages
- Stage I Engineering services (Prelim) Exam (Objective Type)
- Stage II Engineering Services (Main) Exam (Conventional Type)
- Stage III Personality Test
The preliminary exam consists of 2 objective type papers that carry a maximum of 500 marks. Paper 1 carries 200 marks and Paper 2 carries 300 marks. Candidates will be selected in the Prelim exam for the Main exam based on the minimum qualifying marks in General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Paper (Paper-I) and Engineering Discipline specific paper (Paper-II). There will be a negative marking of 1/3rd marks for the wrong answer in the objective type paper.
The main exam consists of 2 conventional papers from the Engineering discipline for maximum marks of 600, each paper has 300 marks and must be answered in English only. Interview/ Personality test will have 200 marks. Candidates’ marks in the Prelim, Main, and Interview will decide the final ranking.
UPSC IES Salary
An IES officer will get a decent salary in the initial days of joining. Entry level in hand salary for an IES officer after the 7th Pay Commission is Rs. 55,135/- (approx.) IES officer’s rank-wise salary is given below

2. C.D.S. (I) & (II) Examination
UPSC has released CDS (I) notification on 28 Oct 2020 to conduct Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2021 on 7 Feb 2021.
UPSC will release a notification for C.D.S. Examination (II), 2021 on 4 August 2021. The last date for applying online is 24 August 2021. UPSC will conduct C.D.S. Examination (II), 2021 on 14 Nov 2021.
UPSC C.D.S. Examination (I), 2021 will be conducted for taking admission into the courses mentioned in the below-given table.

UPSC CDS Eligibility
Candidates who desire to join any of the above-said courses must ensure that they fulfill prescribed eligibility conditions as mentioned below

- For Air Force Academy – As on 01 Jan 2021, the applicant should be 20 years old but not have attained the age of 24 years i.e. should be born between 02 Jan 1998 to 01 Jan 2002 (upper age limit for candidates having valid CPL is 26 years).
- For IMA & Indian Naval Academy – Unmarried male applicants should be 20 years old but not have attained the age of 25 years i.e. should be born between 02 Jan 1998 to 01 Jan 2003.
Note – Applicants’ age must be less than 25 years and to be unmarried and they will be not allowed to marry during training.
- For OTA (SSC Course for Men) – Unmarried male applicants should be 19 years old but not have attained the age of 25 years i.e. should be born between 02 Jan 1997 to 01 Jan 2003.
- For OTA (SSC Women Non-Technical Course) – Unmarried women, issueless divorcees or issueless widows who have not remarried are eligible if they are at least 19 years of age and have not attained an age of 25 years i.e. they should be born between 02 Jan 1997 to 01 Jan 2003.
Educational Qualifications
- For Air Force Academy, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and have studied Mathematics & Physics at 10+2 level or have passed Bachelor of Engineering.
- For the Indian Naval Academy, candidates having Degree in Engineering are eligible.
- For IMA and OTA, candidates having a bachelor’s degree or equivalent are eligible.

Scheme Of Exam & Selection Process
UPSC CDS exam will be conducted in 2 stages, a Written exam of objective type and an Interview for Intelligence & Personality test. Marks allotted to the Written exam and Interview are equal for each course and the marks are 300, 300, 300, 200 for Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers’ Training Academy respectively.
SSB selection process consists of 2 stages, stage I is OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating) and PP&DT (Picture perception & Descriptive Test). Stage II comprises Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. Candidates who clear Stage I will be allowed for Stage II.
UPSC CDS Salary
- During the training period, trainees at IMA and OTA will get a fixed stipend of Rs. 56,100/- per month.
- During the training period, trainees at Air Force Academy will get a fixed stipend of Rs. 21,000/- per month.

3. CISF AC (EXE) LDCE
CISF AC (EXE) LDCE is a Limited Departmental Competitive Examination to be conducted by the Commission on 14 March 2021 for departmental candidates of CISF. The CISF AC (EXE) LDCE notification has been released online on 2 Dec 2020.
Through this examination UPSC will fill nearly 23 vacancies of Assistant Commandants (Executive) in Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) out of which 20 vacancies are for General candidates, 02 vacancy and 01 vacancies are reserved for candidates belonging to SC and ST categories respectively.
Departmental candidates of CISF who want to grab a post of Assistant Commandant (Executive) are required to fill and submit the application form online on the Commission’s website. Moreover, they also need to send a hard copy of their online-submitted application to the authorities of CISF.
UPSC CISF Eligibility
Before filling up the online application, candidates must make sure that they are eligible for the examination according to the eligibility given here
- Only candidates of Indian citizen are eligible to apply
- As of 01 Jan 2021, the applicant must be posted in the rank of Inspector (GD) / Sub. Inspector (GD) for a minimum of 04 years and have a clean record of service
- As of 01 Aug 2021, the applicant has not attained the age of 35 years i.e. should be born not earlier than Aug 02, 1986. But if a candidate belongs to SC / ST then s/he can avail relaxation up to 5 years in the upper age limit
- Applicant must have passed a graduation course in any discipline
- Applicants having NCC ‘B’ or ‘C’ Certificate will get preference at the time of interview/personality test
- Applicant must meet the Physical and Medical standards prescribed by the UPSC
- No. of Attempts permitted is 3.
Scheme Of Exam & Selection Process
UPSC CISF Assistant Commandant exam will be held in the following stages.
- Written Exam
- Physical Efficiency Test
- Medical Test
- Interview/ Personality Test
The written exam of the CISF Assistant Commandant consists of 2 papers. Paper I General ability and Intelligence and Professional Skill for 300 marks of 150 questions and for a duration of 2 ½ hrs. Paper-II will have Essay, Precis Writing, and Comprehension for a duration of 3 hrs for 100 marks.
A person qualified in a written test by securing minimum marks will have to attend PET. Candidates who qualify in PET will be called for a medical test and the qualified candidates will be invited to attend for the Interview. The final merit list will be prepared and sent to CIST for further course of action.
UPSC CISF Salary
As per the 7th Central Pay Commission, candidates selected for the post of CISF AC will get a salary under pay scale Rs. 56,100 – 1,77,500/- with Pay Band-3 and Pay Matrix level-10. CISF ACs are also eligible for DA @ 5% of Basic Pay along with other benefits like Transport Allowance, Children Education Allowance, etc. For more details on UPSC CISF AC salary, click here.
4. N.D.A. & N.A. (I) & (II) Examination
N.D.A. & N.A. examination (I) notification has been released by the UPSC on 9th Dec 2020. The last date for the submission of applications is 19th Jan 2021. N.D.A. & N.A. examination (I) will be conducted by the Commission on Sunday, 18th April 2021.
NDA & NA II 2021 Notification has been released on 9 June 2021 and the last date to apply online is 29 June 2021. National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (II), 2021 will be conducted by the Commission on Sunday, 14th Nov 2021, for admission to the Navy, Army, and Air Force wings of the NDA.
With this examination, UPSC will take admission of nearly 418 candidates for the 144 NDA course, and the 106th INA Course. Both of the courses will commence from Jan 02, 2021.

UPSC NDA Eligibility
Candidates who want to take admission into a course of any of the Academies will be needed to fill and submit an online application on the website upsconline.nic.in. But before that, they must make sure that they are eligible for the examination as per the conditions given here

For the INA’s 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme and for Air Force & Naval wings of NDA, candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Mathematics and Physics. For the Army Wing of NDA, candidates should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examinations with any subjects. Candidates who are in class 11th should not apply for this examination.

Scheme Of Exam and Selection Process
The written exam will have 2 objective papers, Paper I is Mathematics for 300 marks for a duration of 2½ hours. Paper-II General Ability Test is for 600 marks and for a duration of 2½ hours. There will be negative marking in Objective papers. SSB Intelligence and Personality Test (Interview) will be for 900 marks.
UPSC NDA Salary
During training at IMA, gentlemen cadets will get Rs 56,100/- per month as a stipend. Once the training period is over, candidates get the pay in the following Pay matrix.

5. Civil Services Examination
UPSC has released a notification for Civil Services Examination 2021 on 4th March 2021. UPSC Civil services exam will be conducted in 3 stages namely Preliminary, Main Exam, and Interview. Indian Forest Service (Prelim) exam will be conducted through the UPSC Civil Services exam. UPSC CS Prelim exam is scheduled to be held on 27 June 2021 but postponed to 10 Oct 2021. UPSC CS Main exam will be held on 7, 8, 9, 15 & 16th Jan 2022.
Eligible candidates must fill online applications for IFoS through the Indian Civil Services preliminary application process. However, before applying online for any examination they should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions required for admission to that particular examination. Civil Services Exam Pattern and Selection Process
UPSC Civil Services exam will be held in 3 stages, Prelim, Main Exam, and Interview. The prelim exam will have 2 papers, general Studies Paper (100 Questions), and CS Aptitude Test (80 Questions) which is a qualifying paper. Based on marks qualified in General Studies paper in the Prelim exam subject to scoring 33% marks in CSAT, candidates will be called for the Main exam.
Each paper of the prelim exam will be held for 200 marks and for 2 hours, the questions will be of objective type. There will be a negative marking of 0.33%.
The Main exam consists of Qualifying papers of English language and Any Indian Language (Except for North Eastern State candidates) each for 300 marks and Essay, 4 General Studies papers, and 2 optional Papers from one Optional Subject each for 250 marks. Each paper will be held for a duration of 3 hours.
A candidate qualified in the main exam will be called for an Interview which will be conducted for 275 marks. The combined marks of the main exam and Interview for 2025 marks will be considered for merit.

6. Indian Forest Service Examination
UPSC Indian Forest Service notification has been released on 4th March 2021. The last date for receipt of applications is 02 March 2021. IFoS prelim exam is conducted through UPSC CSE (P) examination 2021 for selecting candidates for IFoS Main exam. UPSC CS or IFoS Prelim exam will be held on Sunday, 27 June 2021 but postponed to 10 Oct 2021. UPSC IFoS Main exam will be held from 27 Feb 2022 and continue for 10 days till 8th March 2022.
On qualifying the Prelim examination, aspirants of UPSC Indian Forest Service will be called to appear for the 2nd stage of the Indian Forest Service examination i.e. UPSC Indian Forest Service Main examination 2021 (Written and Interview).
UPSC IFS Eligibility
Candidates must check eligibility conditions to appear for the Indian Forest Service examination. Eligibility conditions are mentioned below.
Nationality
The candidate must be an Indian Citizen, Subject of Nepal/ Bhutan. Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1st January 1962 for settling permanently in India and Migrants from East African countries and other neighboring countries of India who have migrated with an intention to settle permanently in India are eligible. Apart from Indian Citizens, all other candidates have to submit an eligibility certificate issued by GOI.
Age Limit
As of 01 Jan 2021, candidates must have attained 21 years old and the maximum age limit should be 32 years i.e. candidate must have been born between 2nd Jan 1988 to 01 Jan 1999. Certain reserved category candidates will get relaxation in the upper age limit as per the table given under UPSC Civil Services exam.
Educational Qualification
For UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination, 2021, candidates should have a graduation course with at least one of the following subjects – Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Chemistry, Botany, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Statistics, and Zoology. Candidates having a bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Agriculture, or Engineering or with an equivalent qualification can also apply for UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination, 2021.
Physical Fitness
Candidates must be physically and medically fit as per standards prescribed by Government. Vacancies allocated for PwBD will be physically and medically fit as per standards prescribed for PwBD candidates for such vacancies by Government.
Exam Pattern and Selection Process
Indian Forest Service exam will be held in 3 stages, Prelim, Main exam, and Interview. The prelim exam will be conducted through the UPSC Civil Services exam and the selection of candidates for the Main exam will be through UPSC CS (P) exam.
The main exam will have a General English paper of 300 marks, General Knowledge paper of 300 marks. And two optional subjects have 2 papers each. Exam for a total of 4 papers from optional subjects will be conducted and each paper carries 200 marks. The total marks in the main exam will be 1400. The interview will be held for 300 marks. Marks scored in the Main exam and Interview will be considered for final merit subject to clearing the Physical test.
UPSC IFS Salary
Entry-level Indian Forest Service probationary will get a salary in the pay band of Rs 15600 – Rs 39100 with a Grade Pay of 5400.
7. Indian Economic Service / Indian Statistical Service Examination
Notification for the IES/ISS examination has been released on 7 April 2021. Interested candidates can apply for IES/ ISS examinations after confirming that they meet all eligibility conditions prescribed for that particular examination. The last date for submission of applications is 27th April 2021.
As per UPSC annual calendar 2021, IES/ISS examinations will be conducted from 16th July 2021 onwards. The duration of the examination will be 3 days.

UPSC IES/ISS exam will be held in 2 stages
- Written exam for 1000 marks
- Viva voce for 200 marks
IES written exam consists of General English, General Studies paper, each for 100 marks for 3 hrs. General Economics I, II, III papers, and Indian Economics paper. Each paper is for 3 hours and for 200 marks. All the papers are subjective in nature.
ISS written exam consists of common papers of General English and General Studies along with IES. The other papers are Statistics I, II (each of 80 questions for 200 marks in 2 hrs) which are objective and III and IV are Subjective (each of 200 marks in 3 hrs). The question papers are set in English only, and the candidates have to write the exam in English only.
UPSC IES/ISS Salary
UPSC IES/ ISS officer of entry-level will get a Basic pay of Rs.15600 – 39100/- with a Grade Pay of Rs.5400/- per month after 7th pay commission. The total salary will be Rs.56,100/- for ISS/IES officers.
8. Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination 2022
Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Notification 2022 will be released by UPSC on 7 Oct 2021 on its official website. Eligible candidates can submit applications online from 7th October 2021 and the last date for submission of the application form for Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist is 27 October 2021. As per UPSC annual calendar 2021, Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist examination will be conducted on, 21 Feb 2022.

9. Combined Medical Services Examination
The Union Public Service Commission will release the Combined Medical Services Examination notification on 7 July 2021. Through this examination, the Commission will recruit candidates for the following services/posts
- General Duty Medical Gr.-II in South / East / North Delhi Municipal Corporation
- General Duty Medical Officer in New Delhi Municipal Council
- Junior Scale Posts in Central Health Services

10. Central Armed Police Forces (ACs) Examination
UPSC CAPFs exam notification 2021 has been released on 15th April 2021. UPSC will conduct a written examination on 8th Aug 2021 to recruit deserving candidates for vacancies of Assistant Commandants (Group A) available in the CAPFs viz. SSB, ITBP, CISF, CRPF, and BSF
Candidates who want to appear and get Assistant Commandants’ job in CAPFs will be needed to fill up the online application form to be available on the website @www.upsconline.nic.in from 15th April 2021 onwards to appear in the exam. The last date for submission of the application is 15 May 2021. But before anything, candidates must ensure their eligibility for the examination.

Assistant Commandant pay band after 7th pay commission is Rs.15600-39100/- and Grade pay of Rs.5400/- per month. They will get a salary of Rs.56100/-, however, there will be deductions and they will get a salary of 51480/- per month after deductions.

UPSC will release a combined notification for the posts of Section Officers / Stenographers (Grade-‘B’ / Grade-I) on 15 Sept 2021. UPSC S.O. / Steno examination of 2021 will be a Limited Departmental Competitive Examination. The last date for receipt of applications is 5 Oct 2021. UPSC Exam Pattern & Syllabus
UPSC exam pattern and syllabus vary for every exam/ post. Exam-wise syllabus and exam pattern will be given in detail in the official notification of the respective recruitment exam. UPSC exam will be held in multiple stages and generally, it consists of Prelim, Main Exam, and Interview. UPSC exam pattern and syllabus will give an idea about stages of the exam, the standard of questions, type of questions, contents of the exam. It will help in the preparation for the respective exam.
UPSC Selection Process
UPSC will notify the selection process of the exam/ post in the notification. A candidate has to attend and clear all the stages of the examination process. Each stage will have certain criteria to shortlist and select candidates for the next round/ stage. The prelim exam will consist of objective type questions and there will be negative marking. Candidates scoring above cut off will be invited to appear for the Main exam followed by an Interview.
For a few posts under UPSC recruitment, physical tests, medical tests, skill tests, etc. are conducted. Community-wise merit is different for each exam and the details about minimum qualifying marks etc. will be notified in the notification. The selection of candidates will be done on the basis of merit or method prescribed in the notification concerned.
UPSC Admit Card
To appear for any UPSC recruitment 2021 examination, candidates must have a valid admit card or e-Admission certificate. Admit card / e-Admission certificates for the eligible candidates will be uploaded by the UPSC on the website upsc.gov.in three weeks before the commencement of any examination. Stage wise admit cards can be downloaded before the respective exam. UPSC will not send an admission certificate by post or courier.
Candidates who will be appearing for any UPSC examination have to download their admit card / e-Admission certificates through the website @www.upsc.gov.in. For downloading the admit card, candidates will have to use their roll no. (if received) & date of birth or registration ID and date of birth or name, father’s name & date of birth.
After obtaining UPSC admit card, candidates must check it carefully for any error/discrepancy. If any error is available in the admit card then the candidate should report it to the UPSC immediately.
How To Download UPSC Admit Card/ Call Letter?
- Visit the official website of UPSC @ upsc.gov.in
- Click on Admit Cards tab on the right side of the page or the Interviews tab for an e-call letter
- Click on ‘E-Admit Cards/ e-Summon Letters for various examinations of UPSC/ Recruitment Posts’
- Click on the Download option against the post you are applied for
- Enter required details such as Registration number/ Roll no. and Date of Birth, enter captcha code as shown, and click on Next
- Admit card/ e call letter will be loaded
- Check details on admit card and take a printout
UPSC Results 2021
UPSC recruitment results will be available online on the website @ upsc.gov.in. Candidates who appear for any of the UPSC examinations will be able to check the result through the website of UPSC after a few days/weeks from the date of examination.
UPSC will announce the results of the written examination, interview, and result of any other test on its official website. Candidates can check their marks on the UPSC official website.

UPSC Answer Key
UPSC will release the answer key of the respective notification after the declaration of the final result. Candidates can download the UPSC Exam official answer key from the official website.

UPSC Cut Off
UPSC will release category wise cut-off after releasing the final result. Stage wise cut–off is disclosed by the Union Public Service Commission on its website. Candidates can check the cut-off of UPSC examinations after few weeks from the final result announcement.

Q. Final Year Degree Candidates Are Eligible To Apply For Civil Services Exam?
A. Yes, final year students of graduation can apply for the Civil Services exam but they have to submit proof of passing along with the main exam application otherwise they will not be allowed to sit for the Main exam.
So candidates who get the final qualifying certificates of the qualifying exam before July/August only should apply for UPSC Civil Services. If candidates fail to submit qualifying exam passing proof along with Main DAF, they will not be allowed to sit for the main exam. UPSC will consider it as an attempt and the candidate will lose one attempt.
Q. I Have Finished My MBBS But Not Yet Finished the Internship. Am I Eligible To Apply For UPSC Civil Services Exam?
A. Candidates who have completed their MBBS but not their internship should submit a certificate of proof from the concerned authority that they have qualified in the final professional medical examination. They will be provisionally admitted to sit for the main exam. But at the time of the interview, they need to submit an original degree certificate or certificate stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for awarding the degree (including the Internship).
Q. I Have A Degree From Open University/ Through Distance/ Correspondence Education. Am I Eligible To Apply For UPSC Civil Services?
A. Yes, the educational requirement for UPSC Civil Services is holding a degree from Central, State/ Deemed University or Open University or obtained degree through correspondence/ Distance education from the institution/ University recognized by the government.
Q. What Is The Salary Of An IAS Officer?
A. Entry-level or Junior level IAS probationary will be entitled to get a basic salary of Rs. 56100/- after the 7th pay commission. They get a salary in the pay band of Rs.15600-39100/- with Grade pay of 5400 (Level 10). During training, DA will be paid in addition to Basic pay.
Travel Allowance, House Rental Allowance, Dearness Allowance (TA, HRA, DA) will be paid as per present government rules once they join the service after training. If they opt for government accommodation, HRA will not be paid. The cabinet secretary’s basic pay is fixed at 2,50,000/-.
During Training
DA @5% will be paid. The total salary including Basic and DA will be Rs.58,905/-. However certain deductions will be there in the salary like a mess bill etc. They will get in hand around Rs.53,000 – 54000/-
- Basic Pay: 56,100/-
- DA@5%: 2805/-
- Deductions: Mess Bill + Tax deductions = Rs.5000/- (Approximately)
- In hand Salary/ Month = Rs.53905/- (Approximately)
After Training
IAS officer will get posting after the training of 2 years. After training, an IAS officer will get DA at variable rates. Travel Allowance and HRA will be paid extra along with Basic pay and DA. If an officer opts for government accommodation HRA will not be paid. The annual increment will be fixed at 3%. The total salary will be around Rs. 57000 – 58000/- after deductions.
Q. Is It Possible To Crack IAS Without Joining Coaching?
A. Yes, it is not necessary to join coaching to clear the IAS exam. One can utilize online resources to prepare for the exam. Go through NCERT books and follow online portals for conceptual clarity and read standard reference books. Newspaper, Current Affairs, Writing practice of essay, and test series for prelim and main exam, the mock interview will help in clearing the IAS exam.
