Recruitment Process/Selection Process Of TCS
The company hires multitude of candidates through various on campus, off campus, walk in drives and direct applications for its various vacancies. With its headquarter in Mumbai and its branches spreading throughout the country and abroad as well, the company opts for a rather rigorous and in depth selection procedure for recruiting candidates.
Candidates need to score a minimum of 60% in their Bachelor’s degree aggregate and must also have the relevant experience (for experienced candidates only) as per the requirement of the post to be considered eligible for the vacancies. Candidates must not have any pending backlogs while applying for the post. Any gap in their working experience of minimum 2 years is permissible with relevant explanation for the same. Any gap more than that shall not be accepted.
TCS conducts the following 4 stages to recruit candidates to its various technical and non-technical posts.
Written Round (Aptitude Test)
The aptitude round consists of sections like quantitative aptitude, English/email writing and a programming language test and coding round (for the technical posts).
The quantitative aptitude round aims to test the reasoning and numerical ability of the candidates. There will be a total of 20 questions that are to be attempted in a time frame of 40 minutes. Questions asked will range from normal standard questions to tricky questions as well. Candidates will be tested on a variety of topics like number system, time and work, time, speed and distance, ratio and proportion, mensuration, average, simple and compound interest, probability, progressions, functions, set, etc.
In the email writing round, candidates will be presented with clues/words based on which they will have to frame the email. Candidates will have to use all the phrases that have been given as clues without missing even one single clue/phrase in the allotted space. A total of 10 minutes will be given to complete this task and candidates will have to follow all the given guidelines. This section is considered to be the trickiest and chances of elimination is the most in this round.
Candidates will also be tested for their knowledge of programming languages and their ability to form and crack codes. The programming language test shall be a MCQ type test that has to be attempted in 20 minutes. The coding test will consist of 1 or 2 questions that have to attempted and solved in 20 minutes.
Candidates clearing the aptitude round are then promoted for the technical round wherein they will be tested on their knowledge of basics related to their field of study. Candidates of the CS background might be tested on their knowledge of programming language and coding skills and other skill sets related to their respective subject. Candidates belonging to other fields, must be thorough with their knowledge of their subjects in and out.
Managerial Interview Round
This round entirely depends on the interviewer. Candidates will either be asked questions that would be an extension to the previous round or would be tested under pressure to note the candidate’s reaction and ability to handle tense situations. All details that have been mentioned by the candidate in their resume related to their skills, work experience, college education, all other extra activities and qualities will be cross checked and cross examined which they will have to justify and defend. Shortlisted candidates will then be selected for the HR round.
HR Interview Round
This is the final stage of the recruitment process wherein candidates can expect any type of questions right from their hobbies to their family background, skills, education, likes, dislikes, why they should be hired, why this specific role and company, etc.

Entry level (Beginners)
Candidates applying for the very first time as entry level fresher for the various posts must register themselves first on the TCS career portal. Based on their qualification and preference candidates can choose to register themselves for either IT or BPS (Business Process Services).
Candidates can register themselves on the TCS Next Step which is the portal that has been created for inviting candidates for the various off campus recruitments held by the company. The portal allows candidates the chance to upload their resume, track their application status, and receive notifications and SMS regarding upcoming interviews. Candidates can also receive and download their hall tickets for the off campus recruitment tests as well by registering themselves on this portal.
Candidates can also connect and collaborate through various committees, forums and competitions with candidates from all over the country through the campus commune. Candidates who participate and score a rank within the 1000 in the CodeVita contest conducted by TCS Commune are accepted directly for the interview round and they will not have to appear for the aptitude round.

TCS Campus Commune
TCS campus commune is an opportunity for upcoming prospective candidates in their journey to get recruited with the company. Candidates can collaborate and contact with peers, competitors and candidates from all over the country through various forums, committees and competitions that are organized. Candidates can participate in various engineering related competitions such as EngiNX, TCS EnQuode and CodeVita.
Candidates participating in these competitions are recognized by TCS and the top ranking candidates are then called directly for the interview round skipping the aptitude round.
From 2018, TCS largely replaces existing recruitment process to provide equal opportunity for engineers across India. TCS organize National Qualifier Test (NQT) on its digital platform called TCS iON. To hire most talented engineers, for multi skilled and multi-functional roles in agile programs called TCS Ningas, it conducts TCS NQT to the graduates and Post graduates of 2020 batch across India in accredited engineering colleges. NQT is conducted online and have 90 questions from Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, Programming Concepts and Coding. Person clearing NQT will also get an opportunity to participate in digital skill based test.

- Be strong with not just your verbal communication skills but polish your non-verbal skills as well. Show confidence, stand upright, do not blink your eyes too much, do not be over friendly or over conscious, connect with a formal but firm hand shake.
