- The question paper will be divided into three sections, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude.
- Each section will contain Multiple Choice Questions and Non-Multiple Choice Questions
- All the questions will be in the English Language
- There will be four options in Multiple Choice Questions
- For each correct answer, you will get 3 marks
- There will be negative marking but only for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer
- There will be no negative marking for Non-Multiple Choice Questions
- Leaving a question unanswered will not attract negative marking
- To answer all the questions in each section you will get 60 minutes only and the total time duration is 180 minutes (3 hours)

CAT Syllabus Section Wise 2022
Below we have provided the detailed CAT 2022 Syllabus. The CAT 2022 question paper will be divided into 3 sections and you should go through the syllabus of all the three sections provided below to prepare for the CAT 2022 Exam.
CAT 2022 Section 1 – Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Section 1 of CAT 2022 will consist of 34 Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension Questions. Out of the 34 questions, 24 will be MCQs, and 10 will be Non-MCQs. This section will be further divided into two parts, Reading Comprehension, and Verbal Ability.
Part I – Reading Comprehension
- 70% of the questions in section 1 will be from the Reading Comprehension topic
- There will be 5 passages based on the following topics
- Social and Economic issues
- Science and Culture
- Literature
- Current Affairs
- History and Fiction
- Abstract Topics
- 24 questions in section 1 will be from reading comprehension based on the above mentioned 5 passages and all these 24 questions will be of Multiple Choice Questions
- There will be negative marking in the Multiple Choice Questions, one mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer
Part II – Verbal Ability
- 30% of Section 1 will consist of Verbal Ability Questions
- That means 10 questions in Section 1 will be Non-Multiple Choice Questions
- There will not be any negative marking for Verbal Ability questions
- Verbal ability questions will be based on the following topics
- Jumbled paragraphs
- The essence of a short paragraph
- Para summary
- Jumbled paragraphs with out of context sentences
Section 1 usually contains the following types of questions that you must have a good idea about in order to solve them and give the right answer. Below are the types of questions that will be asked in the CAT 2022 Section 1 exam and tips that will help you find the correct answer.
Summary Questions
- You have to find the best summary for the passage
- Small passages will be of 80 to 100 with 4 options
- You should look for the option that does not contradict the passages in any way
- Use deductive reasoning to find the correct answer
Jumbled Paragraphs
- There will be 4 to 5 sentences provided out of order
- By putting together these sentences you can make a paragraph
- You should identify the first and the last sentence of the paragraph
- You can find these sentences by looking for the introduction and conclusion
Jumbled Out of Context Sentences in Paragraph
- You have to find the sentences that do not coincide with the theme of the paragraph
- Look for the sentences which are talking about something entirely different from the rest of the paragraph or presenting incorrect information or counter-opinion to the established theme
- These out of context sentences might contain a self-contained topic that is not discussed in any other sentence in the paragraph

CAT 2022 Section 2 – Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
Section 2 of CAT 2022 will consist of 32 Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning Questions. Out of the 32 questions, 24 will be MCQs, and 8 will be Non-MCQs. Section 2 will be further divided into two parts, Data Interpretation, and Logical Reasoning.
Part I – Data Interpretation
- Part I will have 50%, i.e. 16 questions in Section 2
- Out of the 16 questions, 12 will be MCQs and the remaining 4 will be Non-MCQs
- There will be negative marking for MCQs, for every incorrect answer 1 mark will be deducted
- No negative marking will be done for Non-MCQs and unanswered questions
- The question in the data interpretation part will be based on the following

Part II – Logical Reasoning
- The remaining 50% of Section 2 will consist of Logical Reasoning questions

CAT 2022 Section 3 – Quantitative Aptitude
Section 3 of CAT 2022 will consist of 34 Quantitative Aptitude Questions. Out of the 34 questions, 24 will be MCQs, and 10 will be Non-MCQs.
- The weightage of Section 3 will be 34% in the total score of the CAT 2022 exam
- There will be 24 Multiple Choice Questions
- 10 questions will be of Non-Multiple Choice type
- Negative marking will be applicable for MCQs only
- 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect MCQ answer
- No marks will be deducted for incorrectly answering Non-MCQ or leaving a question unanswered
- More emphasis will be placed on Arithmetic to promote academic diversity and up to 12 questions will be on the topic of Arithmetic
- Arithmetic questions will be of class 10th Level
